Transitional Housing Assistance

and Transitional Housing Opportunities Rental Assistance
(THORA) vouchers
There are currently four families in the
process of applying for these vouchers.
Transitional housing vouchers are
administered through the Housing Authority of Island County. Vouchers
provide the potential for up to two years of assistance. Contact is made
weekly with clients for the first three months, and twice a month
thereafter... or s necessary. Clients are reviewed on a six-month basis to
confirm progress towards goals and to determine renewal status.

Child Care Resource and Referral

There was an 'Appreciation Dinner for
Providers' held in June '01 on Whidbey and in August on Camano. Thirty six
attended on Whidbey and 9 attended on Camano. Plans have been made to repeat
the event in May of 2002.
United Way/ Bank of America Success by Six
began the resource library portion of their project by delivering resources
in late December. They are housed in the service center, and we will oversee
the check-out process and maintenance of the library.
The Collaboration for Children project
is still operating. Continuation will depend on funding after the current
legislative session has made its determinations. Last year 18 providers
enjoyed the benefits of consultation, training and individual support.
Other Programs and Projects
- 2001 Christmas Toys for Tots Distribution
(final year!): 2340 toys 474 children (from
169 families)
- 204 backpacks, complete with
supplies given to school age children
- Issued 93 gas vouchers
- Allocated $1867 from the North Whidbey
Action Fund
- Issued 66 Solid Waste Passes
- 857 contacts for Food Stamp Outreach
- Completed Medicaid Outreach Project in
June 2001
