Transitional Housing Assistance

The Island County Service Center currently has 14 families active in transitional housing. Vouchers are administered through the Housing Authority of Island County and provide up to two years of assistance. Clients are contacted monthly to assess progress towards identified goals, and reviewed on a six-month basis to determine compliance for renewal of the voucher.

Child Care Resource and Referral

'Provider Appreciation Dinner':           36 attended

2 initial orientations held (normally individuals interested in becoming child care providers must travel to Mount Vernon or Everett to attend this required all day event)

8 Minigrants issued to homes/centers for licensing compliance and infant/toddler expansion   Total = $ 4,937

United Way Success by Six Lending Library

  • The resource library became fully functional in late February, 2002. 21 in-home providers and 6 childcare centers accessed resources on 68 different occasions, checking out 203 items. The Island County service center will continue to add new resources based on input from providers.

Other Programs and Projects

  • 223 backpacks, complete with supplies given to school age children 
  • Issued 97 gas vouchers
  • Issued 92 Solid Waste Passes
  • 792 contacts for Food Stamp Outreach
  • Administered  the North Whidbey Action Fund (benefits clients of Community Resource Network Participants for crisis expenses not covered by other funding sources) — $ 3,417, serving 78 families.
