| Ron Camp LCDR USNR(Ret) | roncamp@mhd.com | Ahoy! I was a Midn 1/C on RBA in '71 for PACMIDTRARON, with USS CHICAGO as the flagship. Imagine 12 DD's full of middies trying to keep station! This was during the time that RBA had the dome aft for whatever it was they were testing. During the cruise we got to visit San Francisco, Victoria BC and Pearl. Maybe I can find some pictures. After commissioning I got orders to USS ORISKANY (CVA-34). Got to visit RBA again in Yokusaka in '72 after DESRON 15 had moved there. I may have ended up a carrier black shoe, but I was glad my first underway experience was on a DD! |

Hello Skipper!, Well it was a pleasure reading your passage on the RBA sign in log! I well remember that time, April to August in 1972! I was aboard the RBA from early 1970 until Oct. 1972 when I flew back to the states for discharge. I remember well when we got bracketed! I have a few slides of the shells hitting the water! Don't ask me what fool broke condition Zebra to take those photos though, I have long forgotten. Maybe you know? I have fond memories of working in Plot with Chief Martyn, FTG-3 Michael Palculich ( who I have seen recently in Fallbrook) I am in San Diego fighting a different war...street crime, been with the Sheriff's Dept for almost 20 years now. Take care!! "Hi Ho Silver".... |
