Disclaimer: Digimon doesn't belong to me; Toei Animation has all the rights, as far as I'm concerned (or as far as I know -_-;;). This story takes place before the revealing/creation of Chimeramon in the series, so Ken is the raving, deliciously-evil Digimon Kaizer here. *grins evilly* Sa . . . if you're not looking for a dark fic, press on that "Back" button. This fic'll be a lot darker than my normal stories.

This fic was inspired by a browsing through my document of story ideas and story titles (which does exist, all you non-believers! *giggles*). I took a random story title in there and added to that some of my scattered thoughts from watching the re-run of "Ken's Secret" today [Saturday]. Of course, the first coherent thought that came to mind was "Oooh, it's the Digimon Emperor! *fangirlish giggles*" . . . . . . *rolls eyes* Anyway, co-muse Wormmon finally got me to thinking on Chimeramon. And this is the end result. *points at Wormmon* It's all his fault!! *watches Wormmon sweatdrop*

"To My Blood and Tears"

It's done.

At long last . . . it's done.

After slaving for countless days . . . weeks . . . months. . . It's finally done.

My greatest creation.

A program for a synthetic, ultimate Digimon.

The boy shook as he stood up, admiring the body outline as his computer screens showed it to be. A wild, almost-insane smile creased his face as he stared at what he had slaved over for so very long. Sweat trickled down his forehead from sitting in front of the computer for the last five hours, exposed to the stuffiness of the dark room and the fortress's built-in heaters for far too long. He didn't bother with the sweat, allowing the clear streams to steadily make their way past the restraints of his shades and to mingle down at the bottom of his chin. Liquid dripped from his face, slipping and sliding down his imperial garments and disappearing from scrutiny.

Not at all concerned of the sweat he let off, the Digimon Kaizer began to walk for the first time since he had sat down for the evening. His legs wobbled horribly from the sudden strain put on them, but he pushed himself to continue towards the exit of the control room. Abruptly, his knees buckled underneath him and gave way, sending him plummeting to the ground before the thought of catching himself could even rise. He gritted his teeth and smashed the side of his face into the cold tiling, finding a masochistic pleasure in the whole event. The child tyrant lay on the ground for a long moment, soaking up the coolness of the floor and hearing his heartbeat echo back to him.

My heartbeat. . .

That quiet pounding. . .

. . . Like a haunting call over miles. . .

"Ken. . ."

"Ken . . . chan. . ."

His eyes drifted shut . . . only for a moment. . .

". . . Ken-chan?"

My heartbeat?

"Ken-chan? A-- are you all right?"

. . . . . . No.

His dark blue eyes fluttered open at the voice, focusing on a green face that hovered over him worriedly. He gazed at those eyes that glittered in the computer screen's light, a certain glow from within giving the sapphire orbs a quality rarely seen in Digimon -- and people, as well. The edges of green antennae could be seen through the haze created by his violet-tinted shades, framing the Digimon's cherub-like face. Those glowing sapphires followed the boy as he pushed himself off the floor and into a kneeling position, watching him intently as the young ruler propped his arms on his knees.

"What are you doing here?" As usual, his voice was curt and tinged with a coldness that was almost tangible. His veiled eyes were to the floor as he spoke, which as a bit unusual; it was no little secret that the Kaizer enjoyed watching his victims and enemies squirm. "Shouldn't you be asleep, like the rest of the Digimon?"

Wormmon's voice was timid and lacked power. "I never stop worrying about you, Ken-chan. I couldn't sleep with you working on this frightening thing. . ."

The Digimon Kaizer looked at the Digimon in abrupt disinterest, rising to his feet and brushing himself off. ". . . Whatever." Forgetting about his past failure to walk, the blue-haired boy shuffled back to his seat and sat down. He propped an arm on one of the chair arms, his eyes flitting onto Wormmon. The rookie waddled to him, blinking expectantly; he understood the body language and knew that the Kaizer was going to command for something. "Wormmon, bring me some tea."

"Tea, Ken-chan?" Wormmon blinked in surprise; in the middle of the night, his young master often preferred coffee . . . or some other caffeine-enriched drink that would stimulate him long enough to finish the projects he worked on under the night's steadily-moving, glowing eye.

Even hidden behind plastic shades, the Kaizer's chilling glare reached Wormmon with ease. "Did I stutter?" The earlier coldness was nothing in comparison to the arctic blaze that seared through the small Digimon at those words.

"I-- I. . . No, Ken-chan." Wormmon skittered away quickly, fearful that Ken would reach for the whip that was always curled like a black viper . . . and tucked within the folds of his cape that remained hidden from view. He disappeared from the Digimon Kaizer's line of sight within moments.

Not even noting Wormmon's leaving, the Kaizer allowed his eyes to trail up to the now-clear computer screen. The whiteness glared back at him, stinging his eyes despite the shades that should have filtered the light. However, he found himself unable to look away.

With this . . . those kids will fall.

. . . Those insects. . .

. . . Those Chosen Children. . .

His hands clenched into fists as he continued to stare at nothing.

They, who have caused me so much strife and pain. . .

Pain? I have felt . . . pain?

No. No, I haven't.

. . . They have annoyed me. Nothing more.

He could no longer feel the palms of his hands.

So many months of my rule they have annoyed me. . .

They stop me from ruling this Digital World completely!

. . . Blasted insects. . .

I hope to kill them all.

The Kaizer raised his hands, averting his gaze from the screen to his gloved hands. Through some strange feat, he had managed to tear through the leather and pierce his skin. His blood gleamed and glittered as it trickled free, a fascination to the child that had never seen his own blood before. Once again, a wicked smile crossed his face.

"Yes . . . those children will suffer and die for annoying me. Along with their Digimon. . . They will all suffer horribly for crossing my path." He cackled madly, leaning his head against the back of one hand. "All of them will DIE horribly. . .! And I shall get everything that I wanted!" His dark laughed resounded through the room as the thoughts raced through him twisted mind. However, they stopped as he felt something slide down his face and onto his glove. He straightened with a start, eyes widening as he threw off his gloves and felt his face.

Tears?

. . . Why. . .?

Does something inside me think this is all . . . wrong?

He stroked his cheek in wonder, feeling the tears leak from his eyes and slip down his fingers, mingling together with his bloody palms and sliding down his sleeves and into oblivion. The young Kaizer continued to do this until Wormmon came back into the room, balancing a tray and cup of tea on his head. He blinked as his master took the cup off his head, removing the tray from his head and looking at the boy in shock.

"K-- Ken-chan, you're bleeding . . . and crying. . ."

The Kaizer smiled bitterly, glancing briefly at Wormmon before raising the cup to the sky. "This is to my work and slaving for so very long. This is to the destruction of all who oppose me. This is to the mysteries that even I cannot answer."

This . . . is to my blood and tears that mingle and yet are so far apart.

Blood, red with the hate and madness of years in darkness.

Tears, blue with the sorrow and loneliness of years in exile.

Together . . . what are they?

"Blood and tears, like colors of the spectrum. . .," he murmured, shutting his eyes and taking a deep drink. The liquid scalded his tongue, but he paid the pain no heed.

I am my own blood and tears.
